Thank you for your interest in the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper University Hospital Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship. We seek highly motivated applicants who are committed to excellence in clinical care, education, research, and leadership in the field of breast surgical oncology.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have completed, or be on track to complete, an ACGME-accredited General Surgery Residency prior to the fellowship start date.
  • Be eligible for medical licensure in the State of New Jersey.
  • Be eligible for hospital credentialing and clinical privileges at Cooper University Hospital.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in breast surgical oncology, multidisciplinary cancer care, and academic surgery.

Application Process

Applications are submitted through the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship Match.

Applicants should complete the SSO application and submit all required materials before the published application deadline.

Required Application Materials

Applicants should submit:

  • Completed SSO Fellowship Application
  • Current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Personal Statement describing career goals and interest in breast surgical oncology
  • Medical School Transcript
  • ABSITE Scores (if available)
  • Three Letters of Recommendation
    • At least one letter should be from the applicant's Program Director or Department Chair.
    • Additional letters from faculty mentors familiar with the applicant's clinical performance and academic potential are strongly encouraged.

Holistic Review Process

Applications are reviewed holistically by the fellowship selection committee. Factors considered include:

  • Clinical performance and operative experience.
  • Commitment to breast surgical oncology.
  • Academic productivity and research experience.
  • Leadership and professionalism.
  • Strength of letters of recommendation.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Alignment with the mission and values of our fellowship program.

Interview Process

Selected applicants will be invited for interviews with faculty members, multidisciplinary team members, and current trainees.

Interview day provides applicants the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the fellowship curriculum and educational experience.
  • Meet fellowship faculty and program leadership.
  • Explore clinical, research, and academic opportunities.
  • Gain insight into life at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper and the greater Philadelphia region.

Additional interview details will be provided to invited applicants.

Match Participation

The MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper University Hospital Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship participates in the Society of Surgical Oncology Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship Match.

Applicants and programs submit rank lists through the SSO Match process. Match results are released according to the timeline established by the Society of Surgical Oncology.
