* length of time of the elective blocks varies based on resident interest as well as possibility for alternative electives

Residents will staff every third weekend and staffing will consist of ED coverage for two 8 hour shifts. In addition, the resident will staff two holidays during the residency year.

Teaching

CritCareNowResidents will have many opportunities both formal and informal to improve on their teaching skills and share their unique knowledge with others. The ED pharmacists at Cooper are heavily integrated into the medical residency and participate in several teaching opportunities. The resident will be responsible to complete:

  • ACPE-accredited CE
  • Emergency Medicine Weekly Conference Presentation
  • Cooper EMS Lecture
  • Poster submission to local or national conference
  • Clinical Pearl for pharmacy staff
  • Cooper/USP Critical Care/Emergency Medicine Monthly Journal Scan
  • Formal Journal Club Presentation
  • Formal Case Presentation
  • ACCP EMED PRN Journal Club (optional)
  • Toxicology Grand Rounds at the Philadelphia Poison Center (optional)

In addition, informal teaching by way of free open access medical education is a unique innovative way to expand knowledge outside the hospital walls. Residents may participate on the educational blog www.criticalcarenow.com, a website dedicated to providing intensivists with up to date information on resuscitation and all things critical care.

Clinical Pearl

Additionally, they will contribute to the Instagram account @pharmbythegram, an account created to provide snack size knowledge and daily tidbits. Residents will create #swipeandlearn posts and #TILED (today I learned in the ED) posts during their rotations.
