Thank you for your interest in the Cooper University Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. This is an exciting time to be entering the field of medicine, and an exciting time to become a part of Cooper University Hospital.
We are located in Camden, New Jersey, minutes from downtown Philadelphia. The population provides an amazing variety of patients, ranging from the underserved population of Camden to the more affluent suburbs. Because we are the major university hospital center for all of southern New Jersey, and the only Level 1 Trauma Center, patients are routinely flown to Cooper from other hospitals giving our residents experience with a wide variety of critically ill patients. In addition, Cooper has a large network of outpatient offices throughout Camden County making our outpatient and consulting experiences as varied and educational as the inpatient.
Cooper has a tradition of being in the forefront of medical education, and our alliance with Cooper Medical School of Rowan University strengthens this tradition. We are constantly seeking ways to make our residency program stronger, both from an educational and quality of life standpoint. We work closely with all of our program and hospital leadership to continuously improve. The faculty in the Department of Medicine are innovative teachers who are committed to the educational experience of the housestaff. We have award-winning teaching attendings in general medicine, and many of our subspecialists are both nationally and world renowned.
With an eye to the future of medicine, Cooper has been a pioneer in the implementation of medical technology. The residents at Cooper benefit from a fully integrated, electronic medical records system (Epic) that has led to safer and more efficient care in all clinical environments. In addition, all scheduling information, as well as audio-video recordings of our conference series, is available electronically to our residents so that they may access the material remotely via smartphone or computer at their convenience. Our state of the art Simulation Center at CMSRU is an integral part of our education. Most recently, the Internal Medicine program was among the first to adopt and utilize a mobile version of EPIC as well as an encrypted secure texting system for more efficient and safer patient care.
Finally, one of the strengths we value most is the camaraderie between residents that has been established in the medicine residency program. There is a true feeling of teamwork throughout the program, and residents thrive together, both inside and outside the hospital. The culture of the residency is warm and friendly, and we look for candidates who would fit well into this environment. We welcome you to be part of our tight knit group.
