Department of Pharmacy: The mission of the department of pharmacy is to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to optimize evidence-based medication regimens to deliver quality patient care, ensure safe medication practices, and advance pharmaceutical knowledge through educational and teaching activities.
Cooper University Health Care Cape Regional is a tertiary care hospital serving residents and visitors throughout Cape May County. Cooper's presence in the county also includes three urgent care facilities, primary care and specialty care providers delivering services in multiple locations throughout; MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper Radiation Oncology at Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional, the Claire C. Brodesser Surgery Center; AMI at Cooper, Miracles Fitness and numerous freestanding outpatient facilities providing wound care, lab, and physical therapy services.

Purpose
Post graduate year one pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for post graduate year two pharmacy residency training.
Details
The pharmacy practice residency has been designed to provide the resident with the tools to become a confident, professional and competent member of the medical team. Core objectives of the residency will encourage the resident to:
- Design and optimize drug treatment regimens for patients in multiple settings through the use of evidence-based medicine.
- Strengthen communication skills through daily interaction with the medical team and formal and informal presentations to staff.
- Participate in pharmacy practice experiences to broaden an understanding of the medication-use system.
- Develop research and project management skills through the completion of various medication-use evaluations and participation on hospital committees.
Experience
The pharmacy practice rotation schedule has been designed to develop the independent practitioner. Skills developed during the initial rotations will be integrated into practice as the resident becomes a valuable member of the hospitalist or critical care team during their core internal medicine and critical care rotations. Longitudinal rotations in pharmacokinetics and pharmacy practice will further serve to develop a well-rounded practitioner. Further opportunities for lecturing, networking with other area pharmacy residents and precepting doctor of pharmacy candidates will also be available.

Pharmacy practice
The resident will be required to provide pharmacy staffing services and pharmacokinetic consult coverage every fourth weekend and two evening shifts a month along with assigned holidays.
Presentations/professional conferences
The resident will present a poster at the ASHP Mid-Year Clinical Meeting in December. The resident will present his or her final research project in May at the Eastern States Conference for Pharmacy Residents and Preceptors. The resident will have the opportunity to develop teaching skills throughout the residency by providing in-service presentations to pharmacy, medical and nursing staff.

- Eligibility:
- Applicant must be a graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy.
- Applicant must be eligible for pharmacist licensure in New Jersey by September.
- Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
- Applications must be submitted through PhORCAS by Jan. 12.
- On-site interviews will be scheduled after review of application materials. Candidates will be contacted to schedule an on-site interview.
