Graduate Medical Education (GME) Committees provide the strategic framework, oversight, and collaborative structure necessary to support high‑quality residency and fellowship training.

These groups ensure compliance with ACGME requirements, promote a culture of safety and professionalism, and foster continuous improvement across all training programs. Through multidisciplinary participation—including institutional leadership, program directors, coordinators, faculty, and trainees—GME committees guide decision‑making, monitor program performance, and advance educational innovation. Collectively, they help ensure that all trainees receive a supportive learning environment and the resources needed to achieve competency, well-being, and academic success.

Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) Co-Presidents

The GMEC Co‑Presidents serve as the peer elected representatives of all housestaff within Cooper’s training programs. Their role centers on advocacy, communication, policy input, and promoting a high‑quality learning and working environment. They work closely with the DIO and are guided by their commitment to patient safety, community service, communication, and resident well-being.

Belonging Committee

The Belonging Committee is a housestaff led initiative supported by GME leadership.  They work to foster a culture of inclusion and belonging by developing initiatives that improve inclusion, respect, and community across all training programs through Housestaff‑Centered Programming such as social events, cultural celebrations and wellness programs.

Patient Safety and Quality Committee

The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Patient Safety and Quality Committee serves as a central forum for engaging housestaff in organizational safety and quality initiatives at Cooper University Hospital. As frontline clinicians, residents and fellows play a vital role in identifying system gaps, reporting safety concerns, and driving meaningful improvement. This committee empowers trainees to develop skills in quality improvement, understand principles of High Reliability Organizations and Just Culture, and participate directly in institutional safety efforts. Working collaboratively with hospital leadership, the committee supports communication of key safety information, promotes participation in event reporting and Root Cause Analyses, and advances projects aligned with institutional goals. Through this work, the committee strengthens a culture of safety, enhances interprofessional collaboration, and contributes to improved patient care outcomes across the health system.
