Roland Schwarting, MD
Chairman and Chief, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
As an academic department, we are deeply invested in education and research. We foster a supportive and inclusive environment where medical students, residents, fellows, and staff are encouraged in their professional growth and intellectual pursuits. Our research portfolio spans translational, applied, and basic science initiatives, strengthened by extensive collaborations with MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper and Texas. The establishment of the Camden Cancer Research Center—a partnership among CMSRU, MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, and the Coriell Institute—further supports our mission of advancing scientific discovery by building a critical mass of cancer investigators in Camden.
Our commitment to excellence—both clinically and academically—supports Cooper’s mission and ensures high-quality, reliable diagnostic services for the South Jersey region. We take pride in serving as a cornerstone of health care in our community, advancing diagnostic science, alleviating suffering, and training the next generation of laboratory medicine professionals.
