Scholarly Project Requirement

No matter where you do your residency, you will be required to complete a scholarly project. At Cooper, we realize that not everyone is willing or able to successfully complete a research project, so we offer you several alternatives: In the past, residents have presented CPCs at SAEM, published case reports, co-authored text chapters and review articles. Other residents have taken advantage of our unique Scholarly Track system.

Scholarly tracks allow residents to begin to develop an area of expertise, while concurrently building their CV. There are 7 tracks at Cooper, each has its own requirements, and most provide residents with some form of specialty certification, such as instructor status for PALS / ACLS or the certification in the Fundamentals of Critical Care. Residents participating in the ultrasound track are highly encouraged to obtain institutional credentialing in specific ultrasound examinations. Tracks focus on teaching residents skills which will be needed in their future careers: Oral presentation, mentorship, scientific writing, administration, and continuous quality assurance.
